EX… is an experimental group show. How can we communicate what going to the rainforest in Ecuador meant? Can we develop ideas and hold people’s interest- even if they have never been to a rainforest and have no specialist interest? Mindful of these questions, we needed to be resourceful, working on our own initiative and on a tight budget.

This is experimental work, too, in that we are stepping outwith standard disciplinary practices to communicate subjectively about impressions and responses we find personally important. On one hand, these responses can leave you feeling exposed, but it also helps connect and compare different kinds of encounter.

There is great variety in EX… , even though the ideas of what to do far outweighed available time, space and resource. Each work shown embodies different decisions about focus, scale, and media. Interdisciplinary work was inspirational, expanding what we had to say and how to explore ways of communicating this.
